Psychology of Fandoms

Why can a favourite artist, actor, team, game or fictional world become part of who we are? This four-session live online course explores what draws us into fandoms, how shared interests help us belong, why characters and public figures can feel so important and what the things we love can help us recognise in ourselves.

No. Everything will be explained clearly as we go, with plenty of examples and activities to help bring the psychology to life.

Young people are very welcome to talk about the things they love, but they won’t have to share anything they would rather keep private. All interests will be treated with respect, and nobody will be expected to justify why something matters to them or defend what they enjoy. They can join discussions, use the chat, vote in activities or listen more quietly.

Live sessions are not recorded, so please check all four dates before booking. If your young person misses a session, they will still receive any relevant resources so they can see what was covered.

No. Young Minds classes are educational sessions designed to make psychology and wellbeing interesting, practical and enjoyable. They are not therapy or a replacement for individual mental health support.

You’re welcome to get in touch if you want to check whether the course will suit your young person or discuss any access needs.
